Establishing Healthy Messianic Congregations by Sam Nadler
Has anyone read this book? I just discovered it on the Word of Messiah Ministries site:
His view of Torah observance boils down to "positive" for cultural reasons, but he is negative on Gentile inclusion. He chooses his words wisely, which can at times lead to confusion ( he couches Christian ideas in Messianic terms ).
definitely THE churchiest book on the topic of polity/congregations/membership that i've read.
the christian group "9marks.org" has WAY better (i.e., biblical) materials. in this case, i went to the messianic and got church...i went to the church and got bible. no contest.
however, we WILL be using a tweaked version of this book's membership covenant, though, so it wasn't a total loss. it's essentially a modified-for-messianics old baptist church covenant and is pretty decent. the book was fairly lame otherwise.
My name is Rebekah and I work for and attend the Messianic congregation where Sam teaches. If you have questions on what Word of Messiah Ministries is about or what Sam does what he does...please call us at 704-544-1948 etc...hear it from the horse's mouth so to speak. I hope to be hearing from you.
Peter,
ReplyDeletecheck this website out. It is a Hebrew Christian organization which include as members: Nadler, Fruchtenbaum and the likes.
I would not recommend the book.

I know Sam we'll. He is a kind and good man.

Thank you, Dan and Rick, for the information!
ReplyDeleteI'll still probably read the book but it's good to know more about the author, with whom he associates, where he stands on Gentile inclusion.
Blessings,
Peter
