Bridges to Ba'al [Part 2]

The ancient Roman family also believed that the table for family dining was another altar of sorts where they shared their meal with the various gods.

Now, during the time of Christmas in particular, the Romans held the Saturnalia feast which had all the trappings of a Christmas feast.  They would sacrifice a pig at grove of green trees and chant something like the following:

Whether thou be god or goddess (si deus, si dea) to whom this grove is dedicated, as it is thy right to receive a sacrifice of a pig for the thinning of this sacred grove, and to this intent, whether I or one at my bidding do it, may it be rightly done. To this end, in offering this pig to thee I humbly beg that thou wilt be gracious and merciful to me, to my house and household, and to my children. Wilt thou deign to receive this pig which I offer thee to this end.

Later they would come home, give each other gifts, and on the table would be a pig feast.  The feast would like strikingly familiar to anyone who has ever seen a Christmas feast:

The astounding thing is how well these customs persisted even thousands of years later with the traditions surrounding the Yule log.  In Europe the custom was to take a log from the forest, keep it burning brightly the whole night of Christmas Eve and then very early in the morning to lay the pig on this fire to roast.

The Yule log was similar to the Vesta flame in many respects.  At the hearth, the family would pray for the deceased ancestors of the household.  The flames themselves were much like the eternal Vesta flames because the tradition was to keep a portion of the previous year's Yule log for the new year's Yule log so that the old and new would burn together.

Most striking however was that the Yule log was connected to the "god of lightning".  The Europeans believed that the Yule log protected against fire and lightning.  The belief was so widespread that antiquarian James George Frazer notes:

"It is remarkable how common the belief appears to have been that the remains of the Yule-log, if kept throughout the year, had power to protect the house against the fire and especially against lightning.  As the Yule log was frequently of oak, it seems possible that this belief may be a relic of the old Aryan creed which associated the oak-tree with the god of thunder.  Whether the curative and fertilizing virtues ascribed to the ashes of the Yule log, which are supposed to heal cattle as well as men, to enable cows to calve, and to promote the fruitfulness of the earth, may not be derived from the same ancient source, is a question which deserves to be considered."

HOW DEMONS ENTER THE HOME

We learn early on in the Torah that there is a spirit of sin, a spirit which has the characteristics of a lion:

"If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it," Genesis 4:7

Sin here is given the characteristic of lion that is crouching at the door of the home, waiting for an opportunity to enter.  This lion is, of course, the accuser Satan:

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour," 1 Peter 5:8

He wants to destroy and his endgame is to take over the entire world:

"For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God," 2 Thess. 3-4

Many people are unaware that Satan makes a legal claim on people (or certain areas of their lives) when a person indulges in areas of sin.  But when a person is devoid of the Ruach because he or she does not seek after G-d's Torah, it creates an "open house" of sorts for Satan and his demons.

Back to the Christmas trees...

The Torah says that everything associated with the Asherah (which includes the "green" trees) must be burned with fire:

"The carved images of their gods you shall burn with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them or take it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord your God. And you shall not bring an abominable thing into your house and become devoted to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest and abhor it, for it is devoted to destruction," Deuteronomy 7:25

"You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. 3"You shall tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and burn their Asherim with fire, and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods and obliterate their name from that place," Deuteronomy 12:2-3

He actually commands us here to not only burn such items but to "utterly detest and abhor" these items.  Translation:  don't even look at a Christmas with fondness.  Rather, when you see it bedecked with silver and gold, you are commanded by G-d to utterly detest it.

Satan's modus operandi hasn't changed.  In the beginning, it was the seductive fruit hanging on a tree in the Garden of Eden and the lie "Has God really said....?"  And, once again, Satan uses a fruitful tree (one can imagine the Christmas tree with bright red ornaments looking like plump apples) and whispers into the ear, "Has God really said...?"

This post will probably make me seem silly to many people.  But the threat is real and beware that the goal of every demon is to take and eventually destroy your children:

"And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute.  And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.”  And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.”  And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.  And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us," Mark 9:17-22

Demons are very good at hiding; many do not manifest until they are confronted.  But they ALL want to do what the demons did to the boy in Mark 9--they want to destroy, starting with the children.

So this Christmas season don't be fooled by pretty packages.

Because you may not like what's inside.

Good warning, but you should extend it to Judaism. You can see the mixture in Christianity of pagan stuff, but not in Judaism, the lies of "the festival of lights" which G-d never commanded, Yeshua never kept (although he was in the temple and those who kept the festival tried to murder him) and is an addition to the law.

    1. Merciful, Jews still worship G-d and the great miracle he did, just like Purim. There is no reason why we should not celebrate that great miracle.

    2. No, Jews do not worship God, you cannot deny Yeshua the Messiah and worship God at the same time. But, I do not expect Jews to see it. Only those who have their eyes open can see the truth.

Maccabees "They decreed by public edict, ratified by vote, that the whole nation of the Jews should observe these days every year." Addition to the days to be observed, forbidden by torah to do such, given a glitter covering to fool Israel by a lie of a miracle somewhere along the line of history. Celebrants of the man commanded ovservance tried to kill the one who was to be a "light to the gentiles" right in the temple.

    4. Pete, Yeshua is the one who made this clear. And, you don't know the meaning of mercy.

Mersy does not mean check your brain and the door, it does not mean ignore the truth of Yeshua and his words.

But, you probably are just another pretender, you do not know what Yeshua said, or you do not believe it. You think
those fealings you have are merciful? You stand by and let these men blaspheme Yeshua over and over and say nothing? But me, you make the effort to insult? You are sick.

"Yeshua replied to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me; because I came out from God; and now I have arrived here. I did not come on my own; he sent me."

So Pete, tell me how these men love God and Yeshua is a liar! Sick

    5. Merciful,

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

    6. Pete Rambo, yes I get it, you would not have faced Goliath, you would have loved him from afar and then insulted David for not putting up with him.

You are not fit to be a shepard of the flock. First, you lack discernment. Obviously, there are some wolves here trying very hard to appear as wolves, not wanting to come to the truth of Yeshua, but to ravage the flock. It is not your flock, so you do not care for it.

WAKE UP!!! You are so lukewarm you have fallen asleep. Beware, God does not like your lukewarmness. You had better stir up that spirit before you lose it.

  4. Here are some words of truth that do not meet the "merciful test" of men who are a product of coexistance and political correctness:

"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

Get that Pete? Do you know what the wrath of God is and on whom it abides? But, *you* are meriful to ignore it and pretend it is not happening?

Question: The word says "all of G0ds ways are just and mercy", do you think that includes pouring out his wrath on the nations? Do you think it merciful to judge everyone, casting the unbelievers into the fire, separating the believers, denying eternal life to to those who are sons of the devil?

Do you think it was merciful when God allowed Jerusalem and the temple to be destroyed and the priests killed, just like Yeshua said would happen?

You need to rethink your idea of mercy.

  5. " For when people have once been enlightened, tasted the heavenly gift, become sharers in the Ruach HaKodesh, and tasted the goodness of God’s Word and the powers of the ‘olam haba — and then have fallen away — it is impossible to renew them so that they turn from their sin, as long as for themselves they keep executing the Son of God on the stake all over again and keep holding him up to public contempt. For the land that soaks up frequent rains and then brings forth a crop useful to its owners receives a blessing from God; but if it keeps producing thorns and thistles, it fails the test and is close to being cursed; in the end, it will be burned."

Did you get that pete? "keep executing the Son of God on the stake all over again and keep holding him up to public contempt."

  6. Hi Merciful. What makes a person Merciful? If the person actually cares of other. Maybe, you care for the truth. Maybe, your intent is to save people from hell and you want people to know the truth. You have a zeal for G-d and despise wrong doctrines. And that is fine and honourable.

The problem is, everybody think they are right. You think you are and I think I am. If you want people to listen to you, you have first to be interested in them. Nobody ever win an argument, the "loser" will go defeated, but will not learn anything. You have to care for other's point of view.

I know you believe Jesus died for everybody's sins and you know I don't. If you would care to listen to others, then people would care to listen to you. By all means, if you hold the truth, you should not be scare of the other person's argument, you should listen to then and they would be able to see you are interested in their point of view. Then, they would listen to you and the other person would actually try to understand your point of view, instead of just saying "here she goes again" and skip any valuable point you would have.

Weren't Jesus miracles meant for that? To show he cares for others? If you genuinely care about others you have to show it. If you don't listen to them, you are only caring about yourself (or at least it seems so). And, I think there is enough people caring about themselves already.

Don't forget that people force their ideas on others too often. Catholics did it, Muslims do and totalitarians do. People won't win anything by forcing their point of view on others. And even if you think I am wrong, we have this in common, we seek the truth. And if my idea of the truth is different, well, we can at least respect each others. And G-d knows our heart and even if one of us is wrong, he knows we are seeking the truth. But to force your truth on other is wrong.

"Me too. Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?"

  9. Some simply dont see past what they have been taught from the pulpit by men... There are going to be a whole lot of confused people when Yeshua comes even crying out 'but thats not what I believe or have been taught'. The gospel was told to Abraham, I have a notion that Noah knew it also, and its not 'say a few words, grace will cover everything you do, and just believe'. Its about what He will do within each of us, that He would right the wrongs of our sinful state, that He will bring life to all even in this fallen world. It was not to try and force some kind of conversion upon anyone, the gospel is not about telling others they are wrong and you are right. Its about following His leading, bowing to His will and not our own, to learn to walk in righteousness and not of the world. Remember Yeshua said that He came for the sick and lost, so there was a righteous body, remnant, already in place walking out Torah, walking out through His Ruach the things that make others sit up and say wow I want to know what they know. Telling people they are doomed to die unless they say some magic sinners prayer or just accept Yeshua and 'your in' the kingdom. Walking the walk that He sets before each of us shining His light to others that is what we are to be doing.

    1. Thanks Dee Ann for your comment. I am not sure if you were talking to me or "Merciful"... I understand your point. I would like to believe someone else could die instead of me. Not that I believe it is necessary as the new testament claims. I would think that most jews would not mind that part either. I just came to the conclusion that G-d was one, literally, not a plural unity. Thus it was impossible to accept Jesus. It's not that I am self righteous or believed I have never sinned. It is also a false notion that Jews consider themselves righteous. My hope is in the L-rd, but found no consistency from the "old" testament to the new testament.

    2. Dee Ann, who told you such lies, of course we are supposed to lift up the warning. Are you just another sleeper, pretending to follow Yeshua, fast asleep not percieving any danger?

Didn't God always send prophets to warn, warn, warn. But like you the people did not believe they were to warn, they did not believe they should hear the warning.

What did God say? "For I solemnly warned your ancestors at the time when I brought them out of the land of Egypt; and until this day I have frequently warned them, “Listen to my voice!”

"If I say to a wicked person, ‘You will certainly die’; and you fail to warn him, to speak and warn the wicked person to leave his wicked way and save his life; then that wicked person will die guilty; and I will hold you responsible for his death."

Wake up Dee Ann, these people are perishing and you will stand by and hand them a tissue to cry into thinking you love them, as they perish and are cast into outer darkness.

"See that you don’t reject the One speaking! For if those did not escape who rejected him when he gave divine warning on earth, think how much less we will escape if we turn away from him when he warns from heaven."

Merciful, you forgot the rest of the verse:

but they then turn away from their sin and do what is just and right--that person will surely live; they will not die.

    1. No Dan, that is not correct. Here is a scripture that proves it is not *my* statement but from the bible.

"I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

"Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you."

I have no need to prove anything. They can believe the good news or reject it. Remeber Yeshua's teaching:

"Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."

I agree with that. The point "Merciful" was trying to make was that the Jewish people don't worship the G-d of Israel, a point that I would agree with if I would believe the New testament. Even if I am not Jewish, the earth desire of a follower of Yeshua should be the salvation of the lost, isn't it? If you could be used by G-d to avoid one soul to burn if hell forever. Do you believe in Hell?

Regardless, maybe I have not asked the good question. Do you think that someone like me, who refuse Yeshua, will be forever condemn even if he worship the G-d of the Hebrew Scripture?

    3. I have came to the conclusion that the worship of Jesus was idolatry. Regardless if I am right or not, I do it because I honestly believe that the book Deuteronomy warns against worshipping other gods. That G-d is one and worshipping Yeshua or accepting him as my personal saviour goes agains the Hebrew Scripture.

Now if I am wrong, as per the new testament, I am condemn. I will be thrown in Hell because I refuse to bow to another god, like most Jewish people. So are we saved because of our proper understanding of who G-d is?

For your last question, by your conversation you really don't know who God is...

    5. you see Dan, everybody think they know who G-d is... That does not make it true. I am sure, you are sure, Muslims are as well. I am not unaware of what Christians believe. I actually go to a messianic congregation and used to preached there. The truth is, after listening preaching showing Yeshua was the messiah, I came to realise that they always use the same very few passages totally ripe out of any context to prove Yeshua. But the warnings against worshipping other gods are clear as can be.

If you think I am ignorant, I am sorry to disappoint you, I have not came to that conclusion without checking both side of the story, checking each and any "prophecy". A thing that Christians would discourage for fear of the enemy trying to tempt you to stop worshipping Jesus. Blessed are those who believe without seeing my dear Dan!

But the truth is "Jews are not blinded by G-d, Jews refused to worship Jesus and have prefer to die rather than worshipping a god that is foreign, a god that their father did not know. Those Jews who were killed, had the same heart than shadrach Meshach and Abednego, and Daniel, but the NT say that they are in hell for not accepting the messiah of god, who is also god.

And as for the Jewish people, they don't believe you are condemn if you don't convert to Judaism, and this is the same kind of accusation that have come since Jesus. The "Jews!" don't want you to know the true god, they believe you are a goy! This is definitely not the case for most of them and I know none that believe that. I have been to synagogues and felt totally welcome even if they knew I am not Jewish.

Genesis 18, are you trying to show that G-d has a human body? Maybe you should consider worshipping Antiochus Epiphanes or Nebuchadnezzar, they also claimed to be gods. Why would you attribute that passage to Yeshua, there is nothing about it. What does Genesis 18 talks about anyway? That G-d can walk and have a human body or that it shows Abraham's hospitality while he was still in pain after his circumcision? Do it show that Abraham was pleading for the sake of the righteous in Sodom or that G-d had a body and was actually walking?

Note the intent of Moses, there is other placed where is intent is to show that G-d does not have a body, and he did it to avoid the Israelites to worship false gods.

    9. Hi Dan, I went only a few times to an orthodox synagogue. If someone wants to fully participate in the Synagogue, they can convert. But for a relation with G-d, it is not required. 21. Hi Dan, those were "messengers/Malachim" Thus, as a representative of the Most High G-d, Abraham was worshipping the true G-d. If the Queen sends a messenger to you to tell you a personal message, he will speak on behalf of the queen and should be regarded with respect. The same with the messengers sent in Genesis 18, each one had a specific message. Also, do you want to say that Jesus had more than one virgin birth if it is the preincarnate messiah, when was he born then? Your point of view have very little solid ground and a lot of questions that needs to be answered.

This Genesis 18 argument does only point to Jesus if you believe in John 1. If you don't believe in John 1, that human/god could be anybody. And if you want to push the point, you can prove a discrepancy in the bible (G-d has a body vs G-d is invisible), that's all.

    1. Merely bowing to someone is not the same as worshiping them as god. To cite a modern example, Japanese bow to each other. Jews in Genesis bowed to Gentile rulers. In 1 Samuel 24:8, David prostrated himself before king Saul. It was part of the etiquette.

Now, if one is bowing to Jesus as to god because you believe he is one, THEN you have a huge problem called idolatry.

    2. Another example: if I am butchering a cow in honor of an esteemed guest who visited me, I am merely being a good host. If I am butchering a cow as a sacrifice to the guest because I think that the man is god, I am committing idolatry. It's really not a fine line at all - it's everything about the intent behind your actions.

    4. You see, if you read Isaiah 53 to a Jew, he will automatically think that you are trying to convince him that it talks about Jesus. That's why he will answer "it's not about Jesus" even if you did not mention it.

If you arrive with Genesis 18, most people will think that you are trying to convince them that the angel is actually G-d and that if G-d has a human body, he is the preincarnate messiah.

      Make sense?

    5. No, it does not make sense. Most Jews don't know Isaiah 53 from a hole in the ground...The same with Gen.18... but don't let me confuse you with the facts...

    6. Maybe it's because I know what you mean. But anyway, Genesis 18 does not point to Jesus.

  22. "Judaism is rabbinical, not Biblical"

Be careful if you go to a messianic congregation, a lot of what they borrow was from the "rabbinical Judaism" that you warn against. The customary blessings, Channukah, the yamulke and the lighting of candles to name only a few.

    1. that you are judging rabbinical Judaism because some practice are not in the Bible, but Messianic borrow those practices to attract the Jews. My point is... Pay attention on what is actually Biblical.. maybe next time you go to your messianic congregation, you should not cover your head (if you do) and follow what Paul said...

    2. I am not judging anyone... you assume to much. I am only atating the fact that what we know of Judaism today comes to us from rabbinical sources. There are no other sources from other sect of Judaism. And don't patronize me and tell me where to go...

"Hell"? Forever"? What's the Greek say?

    Regarding Jews:
“For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭11:32‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

    Regarding Adam's seed:
“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.”

    1. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them.

It's not that I want to argue about NT doctrine, but as per John, where are those who don't believe in the son?

    2. What's the Greek word used for eternal there? It would help if you'd use verse references. (Thanks.)

Same word as "Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting G166 fire."

Jason, how do you explain that "Jesus is the way" and also "that He might have mercy on all.”?

Will all be saved, in your opinion?

    4. I encourage you to read the following (one of many great articles by the late Bryan Huie):

      http://www.herealittletherealittle.net/index.cfm?page_name=Eternal-Life

      Excerpt:

The classical Greek writings confirm the historical meaning of aion, as an 1875 study by John Wesley Hanson conclusively demonstrates:

. . . Ezra S. Goodwin patiently and candidly traced this word through the Classics, finding the noun frequently in nearly all the writers, but not meeting the adjective until Plato, its inventor, used it. He states, as the result of his protracted and exhaustive examination from the beginning down to Plato, "We have the whole evidence of seven Greek writers, extending through about six centuries, down to the age of Plato, who make use of Aion, in common with other words; and no one of them EVER employs it in the sense of eternity."

  26. You'd be commiting apostasy unless there were a spiritless image present, then idolatry. Neither of which is taught by apostolic writings.

If Yeshua were present, then reverence.

    1. "spiritless image present"

Your self-created definition of idolatry is not biblical. Certainly it's not how Judaism defines idolatry. You ignore the fact that worshiping ANY creature in place of G-d, spiritless or not, having ANY god before the true G-d, is idolatry. Perhaps your Catholic upbringing has skewed you to only see statues and images as "idols", while ignoring that rocks, trees, live animals (which Egyptians worhiped), deified kings, sun, moon, stars, all would be considered idols or false gods. In fact, your English language confuses you. There's no word for "idol" in the Bible and no word in Hebrew for "idolatry". However, in Judaism when we speak of idolatry we use the term "strange worship", or "avodah zarah", which covers a whole range of improper worship.

    2. It's starting to sound like the only way to support your claim is to use charged words outside their grammatical scope. Where do the apostolic writings violate Torah?
