[NOTE: You can find his sermon entitled "That's Not Fair" at this LINK.}
He begins by talking about Korach's rebellion. Then he defines supersessionism as "the spirit of Korach" and implies towards the end that Christians who don't support UMJC congregations such as Tikvat Israel have failed to prioritize the gospel "to the Jew first." The implied message is that if you, Johnny Gentile, don't give your money to congregations like Tikvat that you have the spirit of Korach in you. Listen for yourself.
There's a lot of hidden presuppositions in that message that I find very disturbing. For example, if Christians are Korach-followers in this scenario then who is Moses? Is it Rudolph? Who is it? All Messianic Jews? The UMJC? He doesn't say! The guilt-ridden Gentile is left to wonder.
I hate power-plays, especially the ol' "You are a follower of Korach if you don't support us!" routine (a la Boaz Michael)!
Here is a new book written by a Messianic Jewish leader from Israel. He doesn't go as far as saying that those who do not support Messianic Jewish ministry are Korahs, but he does basically say that non-Jews are mainly here to provide Jews with their financial resources.
ReplyDeleteThe cover of this book is absolutely patronizing:

Oy.
DeleteYou have to hand it to them, they are getting more creative in their goy hating
ReplyDeleteYes, you are right. Even though they believe with all their heart that what they're doing is loving toward Gentiles, the reality is that what they're doing is hateful. They are sending Gentiles to hell with their teachings.
DeleteI'm all for sending money to Israeli charities though. That's in our heart to do already. But we don't need the UMJC for that. There's plenty of non-denomination, non-evangelical Israel charities that one can donate to.
Romans 15:27: "For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they are indebted to minister to them also in material things."
ReplyDeleteThis was for the poor in Jerusalem; it was not for some denomination!
Exactly... we can still reach out to Jewish people minus these organizations out to turn a dollar. In fact, if you are a gentile, it is the calling of the gentiles that would provoke Israel to jealousy, not Jews. Deut 32, Romans 10, Romans 11, etc.
